Two landmark community-based studies exploring the needs of Muslims with disabilities in Canada — from research to action.
DEEN Support Services was founded in response to a critical gap identified by community-based research: Muslims with disabilities were underserved by both Muslim institutions and mainstream disability services. These reports document that journey — from early findings to a growing call for structural change.
The Canadian Association of Muslims with Disabilities (CAM-D) initiated this research in 2007, funded by the Olive Tree Foundation. DEEN Support Services was subsequently founded to implement the study's recommendations — and commissioned a follow-up study to deepen the dialogue.

One of the first community-based research studies in Canada to explore the experiences of Muslims living at the intersections of faith and disability. The study surfaced critical gaps in Muslim institutions and laid the groundwork for what would become DEEN Support Services.

Commissioned by DEEN Support Services and funded by the Olive Tree Foundation, this follow-up study continues the dialogue on inclusion of Muslims with disabilities in Muslim spaces — and aims to enhance their inclusion within mainstream Canadian disability, health, and social services.

DEEN Support Services exists because Muslims with disabilities said their needs were not being met. This research is a foundation — not a conclusion. We invite you to read, share, and act.
